Places to Go

Welcome to
Nottingham & Nottinghamshire
Robin Hood Country

Perhaps during your stay you would like to follow the Civil War Trail of 1642, travelling through the city, towns and villages visiting notable landmarks on your journey.

Or maybe some of the great houses with their gardens and deer parks would be your choice - Chatsworth, Newstead Abbey - home of Lord Byron, Haddon Hall, Rufford Abbey and Country Park, Calke Abbey, Kedleston Hall, Hardwick Hall, Sudbury Hall, Belvoir Castle, Tamworth Castle, Grimsthorpe Castle and Newark Castle all are easily accessible for a great day out.

Churches and Museums abound including the Home and Birthplace of the world famous novelist, poet and painter D.H.Lawrence born at Eastwood in 1885. The National Tramway Museum, Newark Air Museum, Woolaton Hall Natural History & Industrial Museum, Nottingham Lace Museum, Galleries of Justice and Nottingham Castle Museum, to name but a few, or perhaps even venture into the 700yr old man made caves beneath the city itself.

Country parks with their open spaces, trees, flower borders, lakes and somewhere to enjoy a family picnic are a great favourite. Why not visit Clumber Park, Langold Country Park, Rufford Country Park, Sherwood Forest Country Park or Sherwood Pines Forest Park.

For that fun day out go to The American Adventure theme park, Sherwood Forest Fun Park or Wonderland Pleasure Park. Alton Towers theme park and gardens are also easily accessible.

Seeking Robin Hood ? Then the Tales of Robin Hood near to Nottingham Castle is a great place to start your quest - with all the sights, sounds and smells of medieval England. Further north in the county you will find The World of Robin Hood where characters from the great legend will take you on a guided tour, or why not follow one of the trails into Sherwood Forest itself and find the renowned Major Oak.

Sport plays a major part in most of our lives and Nottingham is a great centre with its many Golf Courses. The National Water Sports Centre with a 2000m regatta course, man made white water slalom and water ski lagoon. A wide range of activities is offered for the complete novice and international athlete. For the less adventurous the centre offers gentle walks through its beautiful Country Park. The new National Ice Stadium will host major sports events and provide fun on the ice. For those who enjoy a 'flutter' then Nottingham's Race Course holds regular meetings throughout the year. Grand Prix Motor Racing at Donnington Park with its Motor Museum is a must for young and old.
